LAKE HARTWELL MAY 2008
May 2, 2008
LAKE HARTWELL IS DOWN 8.8 FEET, CLEAR AND 69 DEGREES BY RAPALA PRO STAFFER TIM WHITE
Bass fishing is good right now. It has appeared that the bass spawned in a little less water than normal this year. Over two inches of rain fell on the lake last weekend which colored the feeder creeks and shallow coves. The deadliest weapon that has been used this past week has been the Carolina rig. Some anglers are tying on six inch lizards while others are using six inch U tail worms. Upon close inspection, the watermelon green and watermelon candy seem to be the colors of choice. Use a little Chartreuse garlic flavor color on the tails. Spike It my choice here. The bigger bass are coming in the five to seven feet range and especially right on the edges of the drop offs near spawning areas. A 2 1/2 to 3 pound average is the norm for the anglers that are winning the local tournaments with some nice kicker bass in the six pound range showing up from time to time.
