On Friday Chris Myers and I had a two boat trip for a half day on the Mosquito Lagoon. Our anglers showed up a little late and a little hung over, with serious sleep deprivation. In my boat were Mike and Alex, who work as spirits distributors.
We saw plenty of fish, and even a few tailers. We had only one bite, though, and the redfish Alex caught was short. Chris’s anglers did worse than we did, though, not getting a bite. It’s frustrating not getting bites when you’re on fish most of the time you’re out.
On Saturday Tony and Joe Spartino, son and father from upstate New York, joined me for a day on the Mosquito Lagoon. It was the nicest day in weeks and the boat traffic showed it. There were at least 20 boats up on top on Tiger Shoal when we got there. We saw a lot of fish up there and they were all fleeing every which way, obviously terrified by the armada of flats boats.
Every spot we tried was the same, lots of boats and spazzed out fish. Tony finally gave up on the fly rod and went to spin.
We fished over eight hours, and saw a ton of fish. Not only did we not get a bite, we did not see a single angler hooked up all day long. When we got back to Beacon 42 it was almost 5 PM and there were six boats in line ahead of me. I so much prefer fishing during the week.
I have a trip on Monday. The weather was nice again today. I hope the fish will have calmed down, but somehow I doubt it.
Remember- life is short- GO FISHING!
And life is great and I really love my work!
