DOUG NICHLES GUIDE SERVICE - Lay
Date September 19 2009
LAY LAKE
Water Temp 74
I would like to start by saying that the conditions that we faced were really tough with rain pouring down most of the day .I think that over 4 inches of rain fell while we were fishing but there was no lighting so we stayed with it.
The conditions had fish fired up on about everything top water spooks and spinner baits and swimming jigs also flipping played a role later in the day.
On my second cast a two pound spot jumped on the Davis X Wire spinner bait in white and chartreuse that I was casting at the base of sea walls this continued most of the day yielding over 20 solid keeper fish.
Trying to up grade our limit we switched to a swimming jig also a Davis bait in black blue with a blue Zoom chunk this drew several strikes but only a few took the bait this let us improve our catch maybe 1 lb to around 10 pounds.
Knowing the grade of fish we were hunting were available we deicide to try flipping and brought out the long poles to go to work on the grass. On this day the fish had a much better plan than I did after doing battle with 6 good fish and the fish winning our dad was over we headed home for a hot shower and some dry clothing.
