WEST POINT LAKE IS FULL, CLEAR & 76 DEGREES BY CHRIS BRACKETT

Bass fishing is good and there are a lot of fish moving daily. Bass are hitting top water all over the lake early in the mornings and late in the evenings, but most of the spots and large mouth are holding in 12 to 14 feet on road beds and humps all over the lake. Use a Carolina rigged green worm or the pumpkinseed lizard and fish main lake structure and points. There is still a good top water bite going on back in the coves. The old road bed in the back of Jackson Creek and the back of the bridge is a good location for some top water and then small crank baits. Throw a top water lure around the button bushes and try the shad Sebile Swimmer. Use a Bang-O-Lure, Rapala, Pop-R, or buzz bait and fish in the edges of grass.

The hybrids and whites are suspended over standing timber in 14 feet of water. They are in the mouths of the major tributaries like Maple, Wehadkee, and Wilson Creeks. The hybrids are not schooling on top right now. Later this week, the hybrids will bunch up on deep summertime places like the mouths of Wehadkee Creek, Stroud Creek and Veasey Creek. Fish near the current flow.

The crappie are in the summertime pattern. Fish under the bridges at night using lanterns in 6 to 8 feet of water. Fish around docks and blow downs during the day. Best baits are minnows and jigs and best method is shooting jigs around the marinas and boat dock on the lake. The bridges at Yellow Jacket and the railroad trestle are good places to fish right now.
