LAKE ALLATOONA IS FULL, STAINED AND 60 DEGREES

This bass fishing report is brought to you exclusively by Chris Miller from The Dugout.

Bass fishing is fair and with last week’s rain the lake is now at full pool. The bass are definitely in a pre-spawn pattern. Finding the baitfish in the creeks and the coves seems to be the key to catching them. Fishing a jerk bait in the creeks is a good way to catch numbers as well as decent size spotted bass. The jerk bait of choice for me is a Spro McStick in Norman Shad color or a Ima Flit in Chartreuse Shad. Both of these baits seem to have a very erratic action. Casting a ½ oz Paca Bug Jig in the back of creeks is the best way to catch your larger fish this week. This will also pick up the occasional large mouth. The best color choice has been the new Grass Craw color tipped with a black Paca Chunk. The Carolina rig has been consistently producing fish. Fish the points and the secondary points in the mid-section of the lake. In the late morning and the midday, there are good reports of schooling fish in the mouths of the coves and the creeks. Cast a Buckeye Ditch Blade with a Super Fluke Jr. to these fish. Let the bait sink and fish it very slowly through the schooling fish. If you still have your jerk bait handy, cast this bait to the rising fish as well.

Lines side fishing is good. The cold front this week slowed the bite down. Look for the bite to rebound quickly as the water warms back up. The river bite is on hold right now. The river is flowing out of it's banks and mudding. The bite will pick back up as the water starts to clear. Right now your best chance to load the boat is mid lake. The fish are schooling up from Kellogg’s Creek to Stamp Creek. There is a great top water bite right at sun up. Ride the lake until you see busting fish. These fish will eat all most anything Flukes, Red Fins, Sammie’s, bucktails and Zara Spooks. There are fish from the mouth of the Etowah River and as far south as Allatoona Creek. All of your major creeks have fish in them right now. If you find the baitfish, you’ll find stripers and hybrids nearby. Flat lines in the morning and afternoon and down lines mid day will work. Trolling is working really well. The Mack Farr 3 arm umbrella rig has been producing well. Color doesn’t seem to matter but boat speed is a factor. The best speed for me this week has been between 3.3 to 3.5 miles per hour. Remember the month April is one of the best months for line-side fishing. We still have a few days open this month and we’re offering family trips starting at $250.00. Do you like to talk striper fishing?
