Logan Martin, January 2002

On our trips out to Logan in the past two weeks, we have found a few things that have produced consistantly despite the cold temps. The most productive presentation has been a jerkbait. Pointer 78's and Bevy Shad's have caught some good sized fish on drop off's near the mouths of creeks and the river. Chartruese Shad, Tennessee Shad and Nikishi have been the best colors, each catching fish. A shad rap will also catch some fish right now when the water temp comes up a few degrees. Upriver, the mouth of Blue Eye Creek has been very productive with good spots being caught on plastics and rattle traps. Poorhouse Creek is also producing good largemouth right now on crankbaits and small jigs. Davis' Finesse Jig in Watermelon/Chart and Browns are the most productive colors. If the water warms with the sun, look for a good bite on shallow running crankbaits on wood and rip rap. Downriver, we have found some real good fish in the mouth of Clear Creek and on the deep banks across the river. Sassy Shads fished in 5-15ft of water are very productive. Small spinnerbaits will also catch good fish right now.
