LAY LAKE, SEPTEMBER 2002

Went to find some fish in the grass this week and was fairly successful. The fish would take a 1/4oz. white swimming jig with a white trailer. William Davis' new Pro Max jig was perfect in the grass with a twin tail trailer. Isolated patches of grass in Beeswax produced the best with grassy points on the river also producing fish. Small plastics such as Finesse worms in Red Bug, Watermelon Red and Camo were catching fish on deeper points near the river. The topwater bite was almost there early in the morning. Small Sammy's in Chartruese Shad, American Shad or Ghost Minnow will draw some strikes on top. Look for a good spinnerbait bite in the next week. Pro Vibe's new X-Wire spinnerbait in Peacock or Chartruese will be best upriver past Highway 280 and in Yellowleaf Creek. Fishing will pick up this week with some cooler weather set to come in. The water is still fairly clear and in the upper 80's, so many of the fish are in a real transition time suspending in deeper water and running into shallow water to feed on the large schools of shad.
