Logan Martin, March 2003

The water on Logan Martin has fallen over four feet this week following the heavy rains that we have had and that has seemed to scatter some fish. The water has a heavy stain to it and is still in the upper 50's and low 60's in some spots. Most fish are in very shallow water on clay banks and rocky banks. Good fish can be caught right now on Pointer 78's in this shallow water in Aurora Craw and American Shad in areas where the water is a little clearer. The fish seem to be taking the bait while it is at rest. Spinnerbaits are also productive on fish that are holding on wood. Lime/Chartruese with copper blades from War Eagle is very good as well as the new Cole Slaw X-Wire from William Davis. The topwater bite isn't in full swing yet, but some fish can be caught with a Sammy 85 in shallow areas near wood. The crappie seem to be a little more active in shallow areas with live minnow and Junebug/Chartruese jigs. The area around Clear Creek is good right now as well as Rabbit Branch in brush on docks.
