POST SPAWN / EARLY SUMMER BASS OF LOGAN MARTIN LAKE
Like Upper Coosa Lakes, Weiss Lake and Neely Henry Lake, Logan Martin Lake the third impoundment along the Coosa River System (running from north to south Alabama), is dropped 4-5 feet for winter pool. For 6 months out of each year, the bass are forced to live in a much smaller lake, a lake without weeds.
Although the famed, Coosa River breed of spotted bass can adapt and the hefty-sized largemouth's have many other places to choose (along Logan Martin's 50 miles of water), many of both bass species desire the aquatic weeds, as much as the anglers that target them during the late spring and even throughout the hot days of summer.
When the lake is returned to full pool each spring season, the predator and prey move right into this oxygen-rich greenery and most bass remain here until conditions change or the meals cease to exist, then they move on. Often, these are bass that school together, schools that grow larger with each passing week of summer, as they find hunting in wolf packs, often means finding easier-to-catch meals.
Piers, boat houses, marinas, and especially fishing the rocks around bridges, causeways, and other rip-rap lined banks, are also fish-holding homes both day and night, for these roaming schools of hefty-sized bass...especially the hotter it gets this summer.
