Tuesday 3-23. Conditions: Cool morning with clear skies and high pressure. Winds from the south at 5 to 10. I fished again today with Dr Dan Smith of Charleston SC. Noting the calm water and clear skies we decided to start looking for spawning spots in shallow water along pea gravel banks and secondary points. This turned out to be just the right pattern. We put the spinner baits in the box and went with the spotsticker and had a great day. Using a NetBait watermelon red finesse worm with a 3/16 3/0 spotsticker proved to be the right combination. The bites were ultra light, felt just like we were moving the spotsticker over small rocks. We didn't catch large numbers of fish today as most bites were so soft we could not get a hook set on them. However the ones we did boat were large fish, including the 6.2 spot Dan is holding in the picture. This spot was caught on the 3/16 3/0 Spotsticker and NetBait watermelon red finesse worm. We also noted that Dan had over 5 times the bites I had fishing the same areas. Dan was using MegaStrike and I was not.
