EUFAULA JUNE 2005
Thursday June 2nd pre fishing for the Dixie BFL - I arrived at lakepoint late afternoon and fished til dark finding fish upriver in grass and on a point with stumps. I fished the Net Bait Paca Craw weightless in the grass with 9 blow ups and 8 connections with 5 keeper fish . The point fish were in 14' of water where I caught 3 with 2 keepers on spotsticker jigheads and red bug hand poured worms.Friday June 3rd my guaranteed co-angler met me and we left the upriver stuff alone and fished down . We did not get a bite in the grass but fished it very little. I concentrated on river ledges and points. the bite picked up on the edge of the grass with Texas rigged worms and spotsticker jigheads rigged with trick worms . We had a couple of good keepers from river ledges with several more back in the creek . We left these areas and went down where we fished docks , skipping jigheads with trick worms and finesse worms . We both agreed that we had a little something to work with on Saturday for the tournament.
I drew out boat 48 and went straight up the river for a few miles to my first stop on the point which yielded two non keeper fish . I quickly swapped over to the grass with great results on the Paca Craw getting 5 blow ups in less than 15 minutes . I connected on two good keepers and 2 non keepers with one of those being less than 1/8 inch from touching the 14" mark. My partner and he will understand why ! I will just call him Andy cause I cant say his name and I sure cant spell it ! LOL Andy connected in the grass with a Paca Craw and got a good 2 1/2 pounder . He would catch 4 or 5 fish with several just short and had two hearbreaking breakoff's on what looked to be good fish . He also caught a dang big mud fish that I initially thought was a largemouth over 8 pounds until it jumped .I had one more blow up in the grass and it was a good keeper on the Paca Craw. After the grass bite slowed for us we began hitting the other areas I had got bitten. We hit the creek downriver with 4 fish and all just short . I went ahead on downriver to the docks that had been so good Friday . The first dock gave up a nice 4 inch largemouth that weighed 1 oz ! The next dock I hit a nice 3 pounder and a few skips later another 3 pounder . These fish came on 1/8 oz magnum jigheads with red bug finesse worms . We ran back up with time running out and fished a laydown tree near the causeway , We had several bites and one lost fish of about 3 1/2 or 4 pounds that I had throw the jighead . I would end my day with 5 fish for 12.0 pounds and a 16th place finish that came with a small check. I would move up in the standings to about 22nd going into the final tournament in September. I had a great partner and enjoyed our day on Eufaula . I think it was 19 that won with 17 in second and 16 for third . I was kinda of lost on Eufaula to say the least ! I couldnt find a spotted bass so I really had to scramble to catch fish ! Good Fishing and God Bless !
