Bass fishing is good and Bass and some are shallow on secondary points and shallow stump flats following the shad movement to the back of the bays and coves. Shallow running crank baits like the new Gizz 4 from Smack Tackle and the Bandit 100 series are working awesome right now. a 3/8 ounce spinner bait in chartreuse and white with double silver willow leaf blades is also a great fall bait. Spotted Bass and some bigger largemouth are being caught on the old river channel ledges in 4-8 feet of water on crank baits, worms and jigs. The steep rocky banks of Little River are holding a lot of Spotted Bass
Crappie fishing is good and they are starting to show up in good numbers on the river ledges in 12-15 feet of water bumping bottom with minnows and Jiffy Jigs on the ledges of the old Coosa River channel, from Cedar Bluff to Leesburg, the area above and below Yellow Creek seems to be holding the most fish. Little River is also starting to produce some fish. Look for sharp drops on the old river channel with cover, the out side bends of the old river channel are holding fish and the points of the old creeks and river channels that intersect the old Coosa River channel. The Crappie are holding very tight to cover and the bottom. The bigger stumps and brush piles seem to be holding the most fish. If your not getting hung your not catching fish, so make sure to have plenty of hooks and weights on hand ! Shooting deeper docks with the new chenille jiffy jig is also strting to work well.
Striper fishing is fair and the stripers have moved back to the main lake on the old river channel ledges. A live shad down lined on a # 2 treble hook with a 3/4 ounce weight at 8-10 feet deep on the river ledges of the Coosa River and the Chattooga River is the preferred method. The power house lake and the canal are producing some stripers when they are generating power at the weiss dam, look for the fish on points and humps that create a current break in 10-20 feet of water.
Catfish are biting Great. Catfish are being caught all over the lake. Jug fishing the deeper flats near the river channel with cut shad is the most productive method. Look for the catfish to start moving in the bays of JR's Marina, The Weissmart Marina and Bay Springs Marina as the Crappie fishermen clean their catch and throw the waste in the lake, It will really draw in the big Blue Cats and Flatheads. Nights are prime time for these big hard fighting Catfish. Use a whole Crappie head or the rib cage from a Crappie fillet with no weight.
